Over the past three years, the Mutual of Omaha Airstream has hosted roller derby girls from almost every state. The crew finally mustered up enough courage to go “In The Moment” to experience the aggressive action first hand (well, it was really just me… the girls stayed behind the camera as I collected a few battle scars).

I grew up playing hockey in the streets with my brother and the other kids from my block, but roller derby is a whole ‘nother ballgame. My hockey instincts immediately clicked back in, but I was no match for the fierce competition of these derby veterans (it also took me awhile to get used to skates over roller blades… I’m not making excuses, I promise!)
